Captain’s Log
Nothing major to report about the long weekend. The most excitement seemed to happen on the local FaceBook citizen forum. My goodness, there were some serious opinions on fireworks, took every fibre in my being not to comment. Decided to just turn the phone off and find something more productive to enjoy, like the sunshine.
The crew enjoyed a very rowdy and competitive game of croquet. Shade was thrown, alliances were made and quickly broken, cheating definitely happened and Number 2 won. It's very on-brand for this savage pirate crew, and probably the highlight of my entire weekend.
The Duchess entered a delightful new phase of adolescence recently, and I’m not sure how I feel about it. She's no longer completely horrified by my style choices (although my millennial side part and skinny jeans are still a disgrace) and has taken to helping herself to my jewelry and tops. The other day she was on the hunt for an “oversized” white blouse when I caught her rooting through my closet. I have to admit the oversized really stung the ego, but I let it slide as she literally has zero filter. There’s nothing like an unfiltered comment from your teenage daughter to make you question your body image. Good times.
The Ship ran into a power outage today and the Duchess came upstairs very annoyed as if I’d called the Hydro company and requested that they turn it off. I wish I held such authority over the power, especially if it gets her to leave her room so quickly.
However, I figured since she was upstairs, I'd ruin her afternoon and I asked her to help me tidy the kitchen. She proceeded to ignore my request and continued to interrogate me when I thought that the hydro would be back on, aka the wifi. I responded when the dishes were clean. She was not impressed and felt that I should have anticipated the power outage and ensured the generator would be turned on as soon as it had happened.
“OMG, MOM! What’s the point of having a generator if we don’t use it when the power is out?”
I responded “ OMG Lucy, what’s the point of having kids if they don’t do what you ask of them?”
She was not amused, however, the dishes did get done. There was an abundance of sass and shaking of spatulas but the kitchen was cleaned. Although I'm sure she’s put things away in the wrong place just to piss me off. Good thing I love the little brat.
I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend. I love your face, I can’t feel mine.
